Flanders House/Society of Illustrators/New York

When I was in New York last year to attend the opening of the first Illustrators 55 show at the Society of Illustrators, I was invited by the nice people of Flanders House, a Flemish governmental organisation on the 44th floor of the New York Times Building. They showed me their offices and we talked about a possible small exhibition of Flemish illustrators who have worked for the US market. So back home I contacted a few colleagues who did some illustrations for The New Yorker, The New York Times and other US clients. I ended up with a list of 10: Anton Van Hertbruggen, Brecht Vandenbroucke, Ellen Van Engelen, Frederik Van den Stock, Jan Van Der Veken, Klaas Verplancke, Sam Vanallemeersch, Sebastiaan Van Doninck, Tom Schamp and myself. Each artist designed a poster with a selection of their best work and also a larger one with only illustrations for US clients was made.
On February 6th I flew to New York to give a presentation about the ten illustrators and the influence of Belgian art, comic and illustration history on their work.

There was a lot of interest in the work of the 10 illustrators.
